1917 Type One Standing Liberty Quarter
1917 is an interesting year for collectors of Standing Liberty quarters, as the series featured two distinct design types that year: Type I features Miss Liberty’s exposed right breast and flying eagle on the reverse hovering over empty sky. 1917 Type 2 quarters feature a covered breast on Liberty and an eagle flying in a field above three stars. Many collectors consider the Standing Liberty Quarter to be our most beautiful coin design. Namely, the occurrence of two types creates interest among coin collectors, both dedicated to the series and United States coins at large. Also, the 1917 Type I variety is the only affordable option for coin collectors who want an example of the quarter featuring the original design.
